Choonage: Farewell and Goodnight - Smashing Pumpkins
Wednesday, February 28, 2007
Hello dear readers, it's late and I've had a long day but I just wanted to say that I absolutely love it when I come across music that I've not listened to in ages; music that's lain dormant in itunes for ages, music that I used to listen to almost everyday once upon a time. Today, that song is (how very apt):

What a crazy weekend that's just past! I made some new friends (Kim and Steph: The Lovely Cousins!), had some good conversations with old mates, drank generally far too much (YIKES!!), ran around clubs 2 nights in a row taking photos and bouncing like a maniac to Tribal,Trance,House, Electro whilst scaring other folk. Spent Saturday afternoon walking with my brother and mum around in the drizzle, popping in to see The Tick at the HOME Club Flea Market (The Tick at a Flea Market??!! Hmmmm......where were the lice??) I also went to watch a parade (its name, unfortunately, sounds like a racial/sexual slur...I'll leave it to you to find this out yourself) on the street with Sher Vin and also found the time to eat my 1st bowl of Laksa ever (I can't believe I've been missing out on this shiznit for the past 26 years, it's so good!)! Please see photo for evidence of said bowl of Laksa!
The hero of the weekend is Pan Yiming who changed his flight back to Oz and went partying with us instead (2 nights in a row, nice one Yiming!). I must admit that although I am absolutely shattered from a lack of sleep and from abusing my liver (against my initial good intentions), I have had me a fantastic weekend partying with some of my best mates here, dancing like a nutter, eating some amazing food and soaking up the love from my friends and family! I hope you all have a brilliant week ahead of you and just in case next weekend you plan to have a quiet one, don't. Laurent Garnier is gracing our shores with his top-notch techno so do the right thing and get thee to Zouk on the 2nd March. Safe.

Look (again), dear readers! Feast your eyes upon the glorious mugs of two of my favourite (and only) Yippading friends, frozen for an eternity (or as long as that eternal moment lasted) on my monitor, straight out of Laaaahndaaan!! What a fantastic 2 hour long chat it was for we hadn't seen one another in months! The chat was still stellar and time flew by until fatigue set in and I had to retire for the night. I'm glad then, that I got to take this here photo of my very-much-missed-mates! If you want to be immortalised on the blog too, then get thee onto skype and let's have us a webchat!MMHhmmmmm.......

It's just after Midnight here in S'pore so that means Happy Chinese New Year, you guys! Gong Xi Fa Cai!
My entire nuclear family's in town and I'm looking forward to spending my time (over the next few days) visiting relatives, eating good food and, yes, being given red packets filled with moolah : ) It's good to be in The Pore at this time of year!
It's also another chance for a fresh start, something I think we can all do with. Although I don't think I've done too badly so far (esp. with my recently-concluded Birthday celebration being a perfect case study; what with my ending the night fairly sober), it's always nice to have a fresh start. I'm looking forward to a year of doing my best by everyone, making more of an effort with so many things and enjoying the friendships I've been so blessed to have. Peas Oot.

My eyes, oh, my eyes.......it feels like I've seen too much, I think I can almost understand how the protagonist in Clockwork Orange felt when he was forced to view those scenes of horror....only difference being that mine was a little red light which took turns to flash, grow dim, grow fuzzy and do all the things a little red light can do....such is my account of having been through LASIK. Looking at the monitor is making me tired....will blog again when I can bring myself to.

Fighting with the Lift Birds.
And you thought it was all work and no fun at STB, eh? Let me assure you that working life is one fraught with danger! Everyday I have to face the evil birds which inhabit the lifts! Thank goodness that on this particular day, I had my inflatable sword of blue vengeance and a belligerent attitude!
Hello dear readers, yours truly is feeling like a proper 26 yr old today; feeling properly old, in other words. Saturday was pretty good. A very jolly bunch of friends turned up at MINT bar lounge at 4 Rochester to celebrate my turning twenty-six. Like all good parties, what started off as quiet conversation, quickly descended into raucous laughter from all directions (or was it just me being loud?). A very eclectic bunch of folk representing people who'd known me at the various important stages of my life turned up, from my kindergarten classmates to my mates from secondary school to my colleagues from STB. Twas good to see that everybody enjoyed themselves and that everybody got along well with one another, including the bar and wait staff and us (or rather tipsy me trying to be friendly with the cute, wee wait staff!)....MOS was, as usual, full of weirdos and, surprisingly, music that was worse than it normally is. However, the excellent company of the folk I was with provided for some very funny dancing (at one point about 10 of us dancing in a circle as we egged on the 2 random Indian men inside the circle who had started dancing with Shervin!!)....all in all, it was a great night and I was glad to have spent it in the company of some of my best friends. Oh, if only folk from the St Ands messy crew had been there, it would have been even better! A BIG THANKS to everybody who showed up as well as those who sent their birthday wishes. Here's to a great year of being 26....may the beats keep rocking your blocks!

Ahoy! Yes, I am 26 today! Old man that I am, I suppose it lifted my mood somewhat when the lady who was drawing blood from my arm this morning (why I was having blood drawn at 8.30am on my birthday is a story in itself which I shall share with you if you're at the same place I am tonight; many of you will already be in the know by now *winkwinknudgenudge, tell no randoms!*) told me that I could have passed off for a junior college student, meaning that I looked to her like I was 17,18 years old! Funny thing then, that she asked me if I could believe that she was the same age as me (upon finding out that it was my birthday today). I told her, in as diplomatic a tone as I could, "Yes, why not?" Honestly, she did look substantially older!! I'm glad she didn't note the tinge of sarcasm I was really trying hard to conceal (those who know me well, esp. those from St Andrews, know that I am NOT a morning person) because she had a needle that was sticking into my arm as we had our little conversation and the prospect of her causing me further pain was not one I was about to encourage!
Anyhow, it's been a very busy day so far. I've had a lovely Japanese lunch with my folx, brother and Grandfather. I also attempted to have an afternoon nap (in anticipation of tonight's festivities) but that didn't work out so I ended up polishing my car and shooting some hoops by myself. I've taken my cold shower and I'm now about to head out for dinner with the folx. For the select few of you, I shall see you all in a few hours! Don't forget to bring your drinking hat!!

I'm in a much better mood now than I was when I wrote the last post about that character. Oh well, life is too short to spend worrying about such people. There are much more pressing matters at hand! Like turning 26 on Saturday, like going for LASIK next Thursday, like maintaining a Positive Mental Attitude no matter what spanners get thrown into my works (sounds a little dodgy, this). Yes, dear readers, big changes are in store for your man here. The big changes keep coming! Right now, I'm just looking forward to a weekend spent in the company of some of my very best friends in The Pore! Aye, let this weekend be one of celebrating friendship. I'll drink to that! *chin chin*

Went for my old Secondary School reunion (10 years since we were in Sec 4) last night. Overall, I think it was a success. It was great to see loads of folk I hadn't seen in ages (both teachers and students) and to know that most of them are doing well and seem to be happy with their current lot in life. We appear to be evenly split up into the groups of "those who've just started working", "those presently looking for jobs" and "those who're still studying". In about 5 years, things could be very different. I'm sure a great deal of the folk there last night will be married and have kids by then! Of course, it wasn't a completely peachy night with my having a somewhat nasty encounter with a particular person from my past who used to be a mate. The short exchange I had with him last night left a rather bitter taste in my mouth and the realisation that he's not changed one bit and is still as obnoxious and pretentious as he used to be 13 years ago. Oh well. Maybe one day, he'll wake up and realise that he's as such. I don't see it happening anytime soon though. It's a wonder he didn't get beaten up when he was studying overseas.
On a happier note, after the reunion, we made our way to Loof and then on to Zouk where Lee Burridge surprised me by playing a much better set than the one he played the last time I saw him at Zouk. I would say that this was the first time I've enjoyed a Minimal set. It even got to the point where both me and Lee were engaged in a bit of pointing at each other (me in appreciation for his pumping growler of a set and he, pointing and probably thinking to himself "look, there's a drunk nutter on the dancefloor!!")
Anyhow, here's to a good week ahead as I enjoy my last few days as a 25 yr-old! Mental!

Just returned from a lovely evening with some very old friends (usually, I'd say that they're not old in age but it is true, we are getting on somewhat!)...after my little session in ye olde office gym, I made my way to the restaurant where I met up with some of the folk who have known me since I was a wee boy and whom I hope to continue knowing for the rest of my life! Eating dinner with them made it feel like I was back in Secondary School again! It'd been ages since we'd all seen one another but the chat flowed freely, almost as if we'd never parted ways. I suppose it was a precursor to this coming Saturday which is the reunion for the boys in my year from said Secondary School. I'm looking forward to it with equal amounts of trepidation and excitement; will it be a night of small talk, genuine banter or a bit of both?....aye, probably a bit of both.
